The Flora and Vegetation of Shropshire

The Flora and Vegetation of Shropshire is a book which describes the distribution and ecology of every one of the plants and types of vegetation types found wild in the county. It takes knowledge and understanding of our flora to new levels. This book will play an important part in helping us to know and conserve the special character and amazing diversity still present within the Shropshire landscape.

It represents the efforts by the authors and the Shropshire Botanical Society members and co-operation from the people of Shropshire. As many as 350,000 records have been made by well over 1000 recorders made since the last account in 1985. Attractively designed and illustrated with species and location photographs and maps, this 446-page book aims to make the diversity, abundance and beauty present in the Shropshire flora available to everyone from beginners to experts.

There is a very valuable analysis of change, a list of sites of interest and places to visit and an introduction to the vegetation communities. The bulk of the book is the descriptive atlas of the ecology and distribution of over 1700 flowering plants, 36 conifers, 58 ferns and fern allies, nearly 500 mosses and liverworts and 12 stoneworts, most of which have detailed distribution maps.
